Individual Therapy: Youth, Teens, and Adults
Research-based interventions are the foundation of my work, individualized to fit each unique client. This often means modifying traditional approaches to be neurodiversity-affirming. Much of this work supports individuals in gaining social skills, improving their executive functioning (including time management, organization, completion of tasks), managing anxiety and mood, burnout, improving self-advocacy, and developing positive self-esteem. I also work with individuals who may not have autism, but seek support for social challenges, emotion education and regulation, and stress resilience. Many of my clients identify as LGBTQ and want to discuss their gender or sexuality in a safe, supportive environment. Some clients are beginning to express interest in dating, developing intimate relationships or sex, and require support, education, and specialized work to appropriately and safely embark on more intimate connections. Goals related to gender, sexuality, identity exploration, and relationships are integrated into individual therapy services.
Individual work can also include parent training, parent and child relationships and communication, and self-advocacy within the family system. Many families are also not aware of the possible services they may be eligible for. I provide guidance, realistic advice, and assessment or therapy services as needed for families to become their own advocates.
Assessment and Diagnosis
I have been conducting comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for youth and adults with suspected autism for over 15 years. Whether this is a first-time evaluation or an individual is coming with a history of evaluations and diagnoses, I will work with the individual and their family to assess current concerns. It is important to take into consideration all aspects of one’s life, experience, and identity in order to provide the most accurate diagnostic assessment. It is my goal to create a respectful and collaborative space so that you or your loved ones receives the most accurate evaluation.
