FAQ

  • If you’ve explored this website and believe my expertise and approach is a good fit for you, send me an email to have a brief consultation to answer any preliminary questions you may have. You do not need to have a specific diagnosis or know your treatment goals before calling. Treatment will begin with an intake session – typically 1.5 hours long – in order to have a more detailed discussion about what prompted you to call and how I may be able to help. After the initial intake, I provide feedback and collaborate with you and your family to develop shared treatment goals.

For adult clients the intake session can be scheduled over one or two appointments.

For children and adolescents, I usually complete the first part of the evaluation with only the parents/guardians present. I then schedule an appointment on a separate day to meet the child/teen for the first time with their parent/guardian present. I have found that this makes the evaluation process more efficient for the parents and allows flexibility to accommodate what the child/teen feels most comfortable with.

  • Sessions are usually scheduled weekly for 45 minutes. Therapy is based on relationship, creating a safe and connected space. Ultimately the goal is to have you graduate from therapy, empowered as your own advocate and actively maintaining the tools you learned. As life and transitions happen, new or different challenges might emerge. I offer booster sessions, check ins, and periodic consultations.

  • For adults: I fully respect your right to privacy. I am happy to have partners and family members participate in treatment, but only if you want them to do so. This would be determined after careful consideration and written permission.

For children and adolescents: I discuss how confidentiality works for you and your family from the first intake session. Generally, parent/guardians are an active part of a younger child’s treatment. They may provide background information on the challenges the child is facing, help develop treatment goals, participate in sessions to learn about topics and related treatment, and support their child in completing any practice, modeling, or generalization of skills between sessions. For older adolescents, parents/guardians may be less engaged in the day-to-day therapy but are still a part of treatment decisions.

  • I offer teletherapy over a HIPPA-compliant video conferencing system. I am licensed in New York (020998) and offer teletherapy to New York state residents.

  • I serve as an out-of-network provider. This means that I don’t process insurance claims directly, but instead can provide billing statements with all the information you’ll need to get reimbursement, if it is provided by your insurance company. As an initial step you can call your insurance provider to inquire about their reimbursement rate for out-of-network therapy conducted by a licensed psychologist. Please contact me to discuss my fee schedule for evaluations and therapy appointments.
